The opponents are Martin Verstegen (both candidates), Mike Bedford (Ozren) and Freddy Johnsen (Olav). Originally, Thomas van der Poel was appointed 1. opponent for both candidates, but due to sudden illness his colleague Martin Verstegen stepped in for him. Martin Verstegen is professor in animal nutrition at the Wageningen university, and is an internationally acclaimed capacity in animal nutrition. He has been involved in a number of research projects related to nutrition and feed processing. Mike Bedford has pioneered the research and development on the use of enzymes in monogastric feeds, and has authored or co-authored a very large number of scientific papers, including papers related to the interaction between processing and nutritive value. Bedford is research director at AB Vista in England. Freddy Johnsen has worked for a number of years within the area feed technology, and is now running his own consulting firm.
